Traveling Mercies - Some Thoughts On Faith
by Anne Lamott

When I read Anne Lamott I feel normal. I see through her eyes how life is real and sometimes earnest but always an experience of faith. In this book she comments on life and all of its aspects. From extremely personal accounts of her life as a single mother to her son Sam to her warm reception in her adopted church community, Anne tells it like it is with humor, honesty and above all hope. If you have times where you struggle with your faith this book is a good read.

Beauty: The Invisible Embrace
by John O'Donohue

This profound book is an exploration of the ways in which Beauty calls us and invites us to grow. A blend of classical, medieval and Celtic traditions of art, music, literature, nature and language it is intended as a series of encounters with various forms of the Beautiful. John O'Donohue states that "When we experience the Beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming" and indeed this book often left me feeling as if I had come home. Home to a new understanding of myself and the world I live in. Home to a heightened awareness of the Beauty that surrounds me and a new sense of creativity. In these troubling times globally we all need reminders about our soul's deepest needs and how to meet them.
